Roadtrip to the country and come home with a boot full of produce from the Towri Growers Market

The weekend trek to the supermarket can sometimes be a bit of a chore, but luckily our country neighbours are here to give us a change of scenery for our Saturday shop, inviting us to the Scenic Rim to share their produce at the Towri Growers Market. Baa-ring every green bag you own to fill up with artisanal delights direct from the farmers. Talk about paddock-to-plate!

Imagine cooking a meal for your mates and being able to tell them exactly where their food has come from. How smug would you be to say that the beetroots are grown by Theresa Scholl and her family from Valley Pride Produce just up the road? That the honey on the glazed carrots was harvested by none other than Chris Topher at Black Bee Apiary. And the cheese, you ask? Made by Dallas Davidson at Towri Sheep Cheeses, of course.

Kicking off this Saturday February 3 and continuing every first Saturday of the month, Scenic Rim farmers are opening their gates to us foodie mates, making our weekend grocery shop that little bit more meaningful as we shop directly from a collective of growers and producers on the stunning grounds of an artisan sheep farm and cheesery.

Dallas, the owner of the Towri Sheep Cheeses who will host the event, said: “We guarantee it’s a better experience than walking up and down the aisle of a major grocery store.”

And it’s not just about the food. There will be a whole range of sellers from candles, ceramics, skin care, and preserves as well as a tonne of fun activities for the whole family including sheep milking demonstrations, cooking demonstrations by the chefs at Embers Woodfire, live music, lawn games, sheep cuddles … and don’t forget the wine tastings for us adults.

As the clock strikes noon one lucky shopper will win a hamper packed with local produce.

Dallas said: “Our producer community is resilient, we’ve lived through fire, floods, drought, Covid, and now a tornado, but we need people from all over South East Queensland to come and support us, to buy direct from us as growers and producers, to get to know us, to share our stories and become our extended family.”

Say no more, Dallas. See ewe there!

The Towri Growers Market will take place every first Saturday of the month starting this Saturday February 3. The new monthly market will be held at Towri Sheep Cheeses in Allenview, a little over an hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. To find out more head to the Towri Growers Marker Instagram.
