Proudly independent and best served loud. This is the mantra that underpins Young Henrys operational ethos, but one could also apply it to community radio stalwart 4ZZZ – a station that is staunchly self-reliant and an avowed advocate of turning up the volume. It’s no surprise, then, that both groups have forged a strong bond – when Young Henrys co-founder Oscar McMahon played in a band, 4ZZZ gave the group’s EP some airplay. Since the brewery’s inception, Young Henrys beer has been a fixture at 4ZZZ-sponsored gigs and events. When the station hit 45 years of operation in 2020, the Sydney brew crew was first in line to wish it a happy birthday.
As a present (to the station and to us), Young Henrys has crafted H4ZZZY, a West Coast IPA boasting a hazy composition and tropical fruitiness – in other words, it’s the perfect sip to complement Brisbane’s hazy tropical-summer days. H4ZZZY has been brewed using four types of malted grains and boasts a malty backbone offset by a double dry hop infusion. Its robust taste is matched with a similarly robust kick, clocking in at a sizeable 7.3-percent ABV. Young Henrys H4ZZZY West Coast IPA is available in kegs and long necks from select bottle shops and venues across South East Queensland, with 50-percent of proceeds going back to the station. You can try the beer now at The Scratch, Bloodhound Bar, Zero Fox, Archive Beer Boutique, Tippler’s Tap Fortitude Valley, Beardy’s Bar & Kitchen and more bars around town!
