When Blake Hynes and Frazer Burnett decided to open a bar, it presented a chance to bring a new perspective to the scene. Working in construction by day, the lads had a punter’s view on what Brisbane was lacking and took it upon themselves to fill the void. After securing a small but perfectly situated space on Vernon Terrace in Teneriffe, Blake and Frazer worked closely with hospitality veteran Kwan Fong to lay out their plan for Havana Bar. The crew aims to breathe new life into the Teneriffe bar scene, blowing out the cobwebs at their London Woolstore space to create a light and airy vibe with a relaxed-yet-vibrant style of hospitality. After obtaining the keys Blake and Frazer flexed their construction expertise, recruiting stylist Kara Hynes to realise Havana Bar’s coastal South American charm that spills out onto the front deck, reminiscent of sunny days spent at beachside villas.
Shared dining is the primary focus at Havana Bar, with a series of small plates designed to divide amongst your crew – ensuring conversation and revelry flows throughout lunch and dinner. Snack on white fish croquetas, patatas bravas, pork and veal meatballs, crispy squid, shredded chicken or crumbed fish tacos, and Cuban style sticky glazed chicken wings, or opt for a bigger plate (still fit for sharing) of prawn linguine, mojo-marinade grilled chicken or chargrilled steak. The rest of your table space should be reserved for a colourful cocktail (there’s an expanded selection of mojitos on the way), a ice-cold tap beer or glass of wine.
