Fish Lane gets zesty with new shipping-container eatery Hello Please

Hello (Please), is it Vietnamese you're looking for? I can see it in your eyes. I can see it in your smile. Well tomorrow, Friday August 5, is your day dear reader. Made up of vibrant Vietnamese eats, ice-cold tinnies and a whole lot of good times, it's time to say hello to Hello Please.

Vietnamese would have to be one of our favourite cuisines pho sure, so we get pretty excited when there’s a new place to get our vermicelli noodle fix. Enter Hello Please – a modern Vietnamese-style eatery that has taken over the shipping container on Fish Lane opposite Maker and Julius Pizzeria. Hello Please comes from Daniel Ward (owner of The Stables Craft Bar and Kitchen) and seasoned hospitality professional Maris Cook (you may know his face from Pearl Cafe), who have transformed the urban space surrounding the container to accommodate stellar food and good times. The food and drink magic happens from inside the box, and can be enjoyed outside on the picnic tables beneath the stars, festoon lighting and murals by local graffiti artist Drapl, or perched at the bar looking over Fish Lane.

One thing straight up on the food – Hello Please doesn’t skimp on the herbs. This stuff is zesty as. The menu focuses on vibrant Vietnamese-style eats, paired with a curated selection of wines, Asian-inspired cocktails and ice-cold local and Vietnamese beers. For lunch you can grab rice paper rolls, chicken pho, chicken coconut or beef salad, or wrap your mitts around a crunchy bahn mi (featuring coriander Kewpie and proper pate – yes please and thank you!). Dinner extends to add small and medium plates, such as crispy pork-belly bao, handmade dumplings and DIY pork pancakes. Hello Please’s menu will constantly evolve, experimenting with bold flavours and traditional techniques.
