Bulimba’s King Crab Co delivers its haul of cracking crustaceans to Oxford Street

It might be the year of the dog according to the Chinese zodiac, but if you ask us, it’s more like the year of the crab. A new spot in Brisbane’s inner east is shelling out some mighty fine seafood, with a Cajun-meets-Japanese spin that’s sure to tingle your tastebuds. If you like the sound of snappy seafood, scuttle your butt down Oxford Street and don a bib at Bulimba’s freshest catch – King Crab Co.

Lobster lovers and crab cravers know first-hand that Brisbane can always do with more seafood joints. Seeing a gap in the market for a crustacean injection, the folks behind King Crab Co set about adding a new haven to the mix, overhauling a leafy Oxford Street locale into a cracking nosh spot. A cosmetic overhaul has turned the corner venue into a comfy crab den complete with decorative crab cages, timber furnishings and some illuminating signage. After the kitchen was outfitted with the proper equipment, King Crab Co recruited a crack team of kitchen superstars and set about sourcing some top-tier produce for them to work with. The restaurant has secured several of Sydney’s best seafood suppliers to ship the likes of Alaskan king red claw, Sydney rock oysters, king prawns and mussels direct to Brisbane daily – with some of these morsels only available at King Crab Co.

Although heavily inspired by iconic Cajun and Louisiana-style crab boils, King Crab Co has imbued its menu with a sprinkling of tasty Asian influences throughout. The menu is anchored by a selection of crab in a bag, where the likes of Alaskan snow crabs, Australian blue swimmers and Jonah crab claws are saturated in sauces such as Singapore chilli, Old Bay butter, miso butter and lime, and Zatarian’s Cajun sauce. Other seafood offerings include house-made chowder served in a cob loaf, butter-poached rock-lobster rolls, Kinkawooka black-lip mussels, oysters Rockefeller, kingfish ceviche, soft-shell crab rolls, sizzling garlic prawns and spanner-crab cakes. Rounding out the menu is a selection of burgers, buttermilk fried chicken, beef short ribs and New York striploins. As for the drinks, the bar complements the fare with a selection of summery spritzes, cocktails, draught beers and wines.

King Crab Co is open now. Look out for weekly oyster specials and some forthcoming menu additions. For contact details and opening hours, take a gander at our Stumble Guide.
