Pavement Whispers: Volume 163 March 13

From whispers of new mammoth entertainment precincts to sweet-treat havens, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Topgolf
Forget gentle putts – this is golf like you’ve never seen it before. Australia is about to get its first-ever Topgolf, due to open mid-2018 in Oxenford. The multilevel entertainment venue is currently underway next to Warner Bros. Movie World and promises to bring a hole (get it) lot of fun to the Gold Coast. Allow us to paint a picture for you – imagine kicking back in a climate-controlled hitting bay, music pumping, drink in one hand, a delectable snack in the other, watching your friends compete for the most points. This isn’t your regular whack-away driving range – you’ll be hitting micro-chipped golf balls that will track the accuracy and distance of each shot, and also award points for hitting targets in the outfield. There are a variety of different games to play (testing your speed, accuracy or drive), and the party doesn’t end when your arms get sore – you can eat, drink and dance the night away in the bar. We’ll have full details in the coming months!

New Farm Confectionery
If you’ve popped past New Farm Confectionery lately and been greeted by an empty store, don’t fret! The store has moved a hop, skip and jump away to Waterloo Street in Newstead. New Farm Confectionery has outgrown its hole-in-the-wall space after three sweet years, with its new digs boasting a kitchen close to ten times bigger than before – so you can imagine confectioner and owner Jodie Neilson is like a kid in a literal candy shop. The current retail space is just temporary for now, with a new fit-out due to launch in May. With the new space will come an expanded range of treats and drinks, plus more room to dine in and enjoy the sweet life. The new kitchen will also allow for more experimentation – for the first time New Farm Confectionery will have an oven to work with … hello, spiced caramel popcorn. You can still drop in to pick up all of your favourites prior to the official new store reveal, plus New Farm Confectionery will be popping up at Westfield Chermside and Carindale and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre from Monday until the end of the Easter school holidays.

Monty’s at Montague
West End’s Monty’s Bakehouse has undergone a little transformation, rebranding as Monty’s at Montague. Taking on feedback from locals, the eatery is now serving up dinner Wednesday to Sunday from 6:00 pm with a selection of small and large share plates. The new menu includes the likes of Moroccan roasted half or whole chicken, meatballs in spicy tomato sugo, and chilli king prawns with garlic confit. Monty’s will continue to serve breakfast seven days and will be launching a new expanded lunch menu in the coming weeks.
