Get creative with Snake Gully Bananas this weekend

You will never look at a banana the same way again once you realise the health benefits and many ways you can use them in your cooking. The humble banana is great as a quick snack, in a smoothie, topped with cinnamon or mushed up in a freshly baked moist banana bread, but this bent yellow fruit has so much more to offer.

Snake Gully Bananas is a 35-acre farm run by Kurt and Carly Lindsay in the steep ridges of Rocksberg, west of Caboolture. Their banana farm has firm roots in the region, having been established by Kurt’s great grandfather in 1931. A fourth-generation farmer, Kurt took over the farm from his father at the tender age of 14 and hasn’t looked back. The Lindsay’s grow a range of banana varieties including lady fingers, cavendish, red dacca, sugar and the super sweet monkey bananas.

There are a number of intriguing ways you can use your Snake Gully Bananas. Try them in a healthy smoothie or a banana hot cocoa, maybe in a no-bake peanut butter gluten-free and vegan pie, baked banana oatmeal or breakfast cookies. On the savoury front, worth trying is the tofu, sugar snap peas and banana risotto or curry banana stir-fry. The choices are endless! So don’t let your bananas go brown in the fruit basket, put them to good creative use in all types of recipes.

Snake Gully Bananas has a stall at the Powerhouse, Manly, Mitchelton and Queen Street Jan Powers Farmers markets, and also produce avocados, lemons, limes and seasonal pineapples to meet the growing demands of its market supporters.
