Luxe luggage brand July unveils its brand-new James Street flagship store

Has it been a while since you travelled overseas? Need a new overnight back for a quick trip interstate? Has your luggage seen better days? If you answered yes to any of those questions, get acquainted with July. Over the weekend, the luggage brand – famed for its thoughtfully designed travel accessories – officially opened its first Brisbane store to the public. The boutique is stocking the brand's coveted range of trunks, carry-ons, weekenders, backpacks, totes and accessories – all of which are worth booking a holiday just to use.

Between flights, accommodation and paperwork, travelling is an incredibly stressful endeavour. It helps to make sure you’ve got luggage that’s reliable, intuitively designed and, perhaps most important of all, stylish. When frequent travellers Athan Didaskalou and Richard Li founded the elevated luggage brand July in 2019, they wanted to address key some shared frustrations in regards to contemporary luggage design, while also creating a product that boasted a sense of understated luxury.

With July, they not only nailed their self-appointed goals, but exceeded them.

In a few short years, July has evolved into one of Australia’s most highly praised (and highly prized) luggage brands, with its range of thoughtfully designed products not only making the stresses of travel a little bit easier, but also more enjoyable.

On Saturday March 16, July cut the ribbon on its flagship Brisbane store (its eighth store in total and second in Queensland) – a modern and stylish space nestled near James Street, just a hop, skip and a jump from The Calile Hotel. Designed by In Addition and constructed by Trust Projects, the July store leans into the leisure and lifestyle-oriented nature of James Street’s shopping and dining precinct, with subtropical touches matching the hub’s established aesthetic. In Addition director Josh McLean describes the store as “an oasis for the customer where Slim Aarons-inspired design creates an experiential environment offering new ways to connect with the July product and brand.”

Occupying the shop’s timber shelves is July’s full range of products. It all starts with the iconic Carry On – the brand’s breakthrough product, which sports an unbreakable German polycarbonate shell, 360-degree SilentMove spinner wheels, a multi-stop telescopic handle and an ejectable QuickCharge battery. If you need something bigger, July’s checked cases (boasting an 80-L capacity) and heritage-style trunks (featuring glazed polycarbonate shells and twin latch locks) are also available.

Those looking for a sleeker carry-on option or a simple overnight bag should look to July’s slimline tote bags, weekender duffle bags and backpacks, which can all be found in store. If you’ve got your luggage sorted, July’s range of accessories – including passport holders, wallets, key rings, luggage tags, toiletry bags and cosmetic cases – make for the perfect add-on or gift.

July’s James Street store is now open to the public – head to the brand’s website to take a sneak peek at the full range.
