Anyone that has squeezed inside Flour & Chocolate’s Morningside patisserie at peak pastry hour knows that it’s a tight fit. Of course, jostling for position on doughnut day is part of the charm (and the doughnuts are so worth it), but Flour & Chocolate’s new location in Northgate is promising more space to move and more goodies to go around. Owners Lachlan and Kylie Scott have been considering expansion for a few years, with an eye towards future-proofing the business and setting it to supply potential satellite sites or market stalls. When considering locations, the tandem mandated that it had to have a significantly larger kitchen space, a family-friendly atmosphere and it had to be in Brisbane’s north, where many patrons were travelling from on a weekly basis. The ideal spot presented itself on Old Toombul Road in Northgate and Lachlan and Kylie jumped on it. After some hard work, Flour & Chocolate Northgate opened in mid January, showing off its undercover seating area for customers to relax with their purchase, a coffee counter for barista-brewed joy and a sizeable kitchen area equipped with plenty of brand-new toys.
Those in Brisbane’s south need not panic – Morningside will remain as is, with its own kitchen maintaining the same level of output as always. Over in Northgate, Flour & Chocolate will allow the baking team to experiment with rotating specials, supply more of its in-demand items, and give locals a sunny dog-friendly spot to grab a bite with friends or family. Alongside greater amounts of artisan breads, cakes, tarts, slices, brownies, sausage rolls and more (trust us, the list is substantial) Lachlan and Kylie will be offering baked cheesecakes, pressed sandwiches, more flavoured croissants, savoury danishes and mini focaccias. Mocopan is supplying the coffee, but tea fans can enjoy pots of loose-leaf goodness from Tielka if they fancy. A retail section stocks artisan goods such as pickles, relishes, honey, peanut butter, biscuits and barbecue sauce.
Flour & Chocolate Northgate is currently open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with Thursday trading to commence at the end of the month. For more information, check out the Stumble Guide.
